Peaceful protest?....Ya right.
Is there such a thing as peaceful protest? After this weeks display at Pioneer Park in Salt Lake I’m beginning to think that using the two terms with on another is simply oxymoronic. A few days ago president bush came to Utah to speak in front of the veterans of foreign wars convention that was held at the salt palace. As the president was giving his speech, which only lasted all of about twenty minutes, protestors were gathering outside the salt palace in pioneer park led by none other than the mayor of salt lake city Rocky Anderson, who later gave an anti bush speech. Now I’m no politician, but it would seem like that in a state that bush won in the last election by over 60% that old Rocko may want to consider his audience before he heads up to the pulpit and commits political suicide. Sure, there were about 600 protestors in the park cheering Rocky on, but there were also four television cameras broadcasting Rocky, as he was falling on his political sword, to tens of thousands of other Utahans. As far a peaceful protest is concerned there were reports of pro bush supporters in the crowd being spat upon, punched, kicked, pinched etc. How can one punch and kick someone all the while calling THEM the warmonger. These actions are a far cry from simple conscientious objection. As one of the news reporters from channel 5 weaved through the crowd talking to protestors it looked as if Jerry Garcia sprang up from the grave and the Grateful Dead had come to Utah for a revival concert. These people live for descent in any way they could get it. “Stick it to the man”, “Power to the people”. A lot of the people this reporter stopped and interviewed were way over forty years old seemingly trying to relive their old collage days protesting during the Vietnam War. I’ve got news for all of you old stinking douchbag hippies and younger wannabes,……THIS ISN”T VIETMAN!, as much as you may want it to be its just not. In just over two years in Iraq we have lost 1,700 soldiers. In Vietnam we lost 60,000 soldiers in ten years, do the math. This would mean at our current casualty rate in order for this war to even come close to being as bad as Vietnam we would have to be there for over 60 years! So give it up all of you bleeding heart hippie morons, what you should be crying about is the tens of thousands that are being slaughtered by the Janjaweed Islamic fascists over in the Sudan. O’ya, I forgot, you hate the establishment not the terrorists.
