Faith and Strength
Lately I've been contemplating my personal stance on carrying a concealed weapon and at the same time wondering why I am the only one I personally know that carries one. I justified it by saying that it was my civic duty because some psycho might walk into a store or something and start plugging people, in which if such occasion should come to rise I would start fearlessly plugging back. Well the reality of the day stands at this, the only person I've managed to plug in my two years of weapon carrying has been myself in the leg. Don't get me wrong I'm not here to tell everybody that carries a concealed weapon that because I shot my idiot self in the leg that no one should carry a weapon. I am just undergoing some personal contemplation here that I only, as of now, intend to apply to myself. I was reading the bible the other night before I went to sleep and was thinking about the reasons I feel so inclined to carry a weapon. I was also thinking about some of the people that I admired so deeply and why they for some reason thought it not necessary to carry a weapon. These include people that I have known personally as well as spiritual figures like Gandhi and Jesus. I thought about it for awhile and think that my inclination towards self defense is a manifestation of my lack of faith. Those with pure faith have no need for such defense because what they have cannot be taken by any earthly means. Jesus said, "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?" Jesus told us to love our enemies and to turn the other cheek. I just now am coming to understand that fighting saves us temporally but kills us spiritually. I have had a distorted view of power. Power is not in the ability to take life. Real power lies within the faith and testimony that we are on this earth to attain. The man who has faith and a testimony in the Lord Jesus Christ has built his house upon a rock in the glory of heaven and has no reason to fear any man. I am really starting to think that my energies should be focused on building faith and not buying bullets. Please let me know you opinion, send any comments to: dscott2278@hotmail.com
